Umi Grill and Sushi Bar
2002 S. Third St.
Terre Haute, IN

A Japanese garden greets the eye of diners as they enter, and Japanese music adds to the experience. In the evenings, projections of waterfalls and swimming fish appear on the wall, creating a sense of tranquility. Owner and chef Yan Qi insists on quality for his sushi and sashimi dishes; all fish are wild caught. Two of the most popular items are the baked scallop roll and the summer roll, but the menu includes a wide variety of noodle, tempura and other dishes from all over Japan. Qi has prepared meals for the Indianapolis Colts and Indiana Pacers, as well as Olympic skater Michelle Kwan. He relocated Sushi Umi (Terre Haute's first Japanese restaurant) and renamed it to provide additional seating and to showcase more of Japanese culture. Hours are 4:30 to 9:30 Monday, 11:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 11:30 to 10:30 Friday and Saturday.
